Obituary for Norma Dalaly Hakim

Dear family and faithful community members; It is with great sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the passing of one of the pioneers and pillar of our Chaldean community.
Our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend; Norma Dalaly Hakim, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 9, 2023, after nearly a century.
Norma Hakim (Naima Dalaly) was born to Hana and Nerme Dalaly in Telkaif, Iraq in the early 1920’s. In 1937, she immigrated to Detroit to marry her beloved husband, the late Karim Hakim (son of Thomas (Tobia) and Barbara (Babbali) Hakim).
She is the loving mother to the late George (Faiza) Hakim, Joanne (the late Alex) Thomas, Patricia (Thomas) McCracken, Dale (Doug) Waldon, Karen [(the late Ronald) (David McDonald)] Jalaba, Lorie (Danny) Harwood, Mark Hakim, and Carl (Azucena) Hakim.
Norma will be forever remembered by her children, 19 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all of the people whose lives she touched.
Norma spent her life devoted to her family and the service of others. She set an example of honesty, integrity, hard-work, and unwavering faith in God. Norma was a pillar of the Chaldean community and dedicated to The Ladies of Charity.
She cherished her family, and her spirit will continue to live on through them. Norma leaves behind a legacy that we will all aspire to follow.
Church Services: A Resurrection Mass will be celebrated this coming Wednesday at 10:00 am at Mother of God Chaldean Catholic Church.
