Obituary for Mike Mikha Nagara

Mike Mikha Nagara was born April 25, 1952 to Mikha Nagara and Amina Shamo in Alqosh, Iraq . He passed away on April 1, 2022 at the Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, California. He was 69 years old.

In 1989, Mike immigrated his family from Iraq to San Diego, California. Traveling across the Middle East by foot, camel and car, he successfully and safely brought his family to the United States for better opportunities and quality of life. He continued to move his family across the U.S., having lived in North Dakota, Michigan and Nevada. Mike was a world traveler and couldn’t sit still for too long. He lived in Mexico City for nearly 17 years, where his family would visit frequently.

Mike didn’t get to complete his education as a young child, but that didn’t stop him from being successful. He was an entrepreneur at heart, starting several businesses from the ground up with little money and experience. Such businesses include a trucking company, a burger joint, a taco stand and convenient stores all spanning from Michigan to Mexico.

Often seen with an oud, a Middle Eastern like-guitar, Mike was a musician by day and businessman by night. He enjoyed cooking for people, always centering joyful moments around food and in the kitchen. His signature dish, bagilla dihin, a traditional Iraqi breakfast, was typically started the night before consumption. He’d wake up his five children at the crack of dawn to enjoy the meal together at the dining table. Mike was the life of the party, often making people laugh with his jokes and wit. He never left a space without making people smile. His energy and tenacity will be deeply missed by those he knew.

Mike was loved by so many — everyone was his friend. He took pride in helping people before himself. He left behind a number of friends, family members and strangers who were touched by his presence. Mike was predeceased by his father Mikha Nagara, his mother Amina Shamo and brother Samir Nagara. He is survived by his wife, Bernadet Eramya, and five children, Ghandi Eramya, Ghada (Omar) Elias, Ghayda (Andy) Davies, Fadia (Hunter) Eramya-Sealy and Amelia Eramya. He left behind four grandchildren.
