Obituary

Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they shall see God.

“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.” Amen.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the loss of our beloved mother and grandmother, Mary (Kassab) Dickhow (88). Mary passed away on the night of February 27th, 2021. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and a loving aunt.

Mary was born on October 14, 1932 in the village of Tel Keppe in northern Iraq. She was the daughter of Tobia and Hanni. In 1946 she was married to Yelda Dickhow and together they had seven children. Along with her family, Mary immigrated to the United States in September 1976 and after initially living in the Western suburbs of Detroit, she finally settled in Macomb County in 1997 where she made her home until her death. She spent her final days in Sterling Heights where she was loved by her neighbors. A retired business owner, Mary worked alongside her family in Clinton Township and was a respected and an integral part of the local community. Mary was a devout Catholic and an active member of her congregation at Holy Martyrs Chaldean Church.

Mary will forever be loved and missed by those that she left behind. She is survived by three sons: Hani, Danny and Nick, and three daughters Nakiya Sallan, Amy, Hanna Kashat. Her youngest son Mike preceded her in death. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. We will all miss the joy and love that she has brought into our lives and take example from her faith and devotion.

"I am Free"

Don’t grieve for me, for now I am free; I took His hand when I heard Him call; I turned my back and left it all, My life’s been full, I savored much; Good friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss; Perhaps my time seemed all too brief; Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and share with me; God wanted me now, he set me free.
